A woman allegedly seeking revenge on her cheating husband stabbed him to death before chopping off his penis and placing it in his lifeless hand, a court heard.

Lawyer Udeme Otike-Odibi, 47, is accused of murdering her husband Sym, 50, after discovering he was having an affair.

After allegedly beating him with a frying pan, stabbing him and cutting off his penis, she is accused of telling his corpse he was ‘better off without it’.

Otike-Odibi, who has dual British and Nigerian citizenship and was planning to fly to the UK from their home in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria at the time, has also been charged with mutilating her husband’s body.

Homicide police chief Olusegun Bamidele told the court: ‘She stated that the deceased was having extra-marital affairs and whenever she raised the issue with him, his responses were not satisfactory.

He appeared nonchalant.

‘She said that on May 2, 2018, she was preparing to travel to the United Kingdom when she checked the bedside locker for her marriage certificate.

‘She had a discussion with him and there was a hot exchange of words, which made her to go to the kitchen and get a frying pan and knife.

‘When she returned to where the deceased lay, she hit him on the head with the frying pan and said, “Tell me, what is in your mind that you are withholding?”.’

Otike-Odibi even challenged her husband to call his mother and report her behaviour before repeatedly hitting him on the head with the pan, the police chief claimed.

She then stabbed him in the abdomen and sat beside him, ‘looking at his intestines coming out’, he added.

The court was told that Otike-Odibi later sent a WhastApp message to a friend saying: ‘I have done something terrible.’ She sent another to her own mother and said: ‘Sorry mum, we engaged in a fight.’

Police seized a frying pan, knife, pen and phones as well as Otike-Odibi’s British and Nigerian passports after searching her home.

Her lawyer challenged the admissibility of the statements given to police. Police said at the time of Sym’s death that detectives had found him ‘with his stomach ripped open’.

The couple are understood to have married three years ago after Sym divorced his first wife.

He has a daughter who is currently studying in the UK, the court heard. Otike-Odibi denies all the charges against her. Judge Adedayo Akintoye adjourned the trial until February 25.
