This Is Not The Time To Be Issuing Statements – Obiri Boahen Replies NPP National Chairman

Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has taken a swipe at the National Chairman of the party, Stephen Ayensu Ntim.

According to him this is not the time for the National Chairman of the party to be issuing statements and calling for calm.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a statement issued by the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim said it is engaging all stakeholders over the demand of some Majority MPs for Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen to be sacked.

The party said it’s engaging the government and the parliamentary group to find an amicable solution to the matter.

It has thus asked all factions to remain calm as the issue is being resolved.

But speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, he explained that as a National Chairman of a ruling party which seems to be suffering from internal crisis, he should write to convene a National Executive meeting as soon as possible before the matter gets out of hand.

“This is a very crucial time for the party, and as a National Chairman you should convene a meeting for the leadership of the party to discuss the way forward in this trying times.

” . . you can’t just issue a statement to calm your Members of Parliament who are aggrieved and are revolting even against some appointees of the President,” he said.

Background

Some 80 New Patriotic Party MPs for the immediate dismissal of the Finance Minister.

According to them, the continuous stay of Ken Ofori-Atta in office was delaying the IMF bailout the country is seeking due to the fact that the Minister has lost all credibility.

They have thus petitioned the President to either remove him or face a boycott in Parliament.

“If our request is not responded to positively, we will not be present for the budget hearing, neither will we participate in the debate,” Mr Appiah-Kubi, spokesperson for the Majority caucus and MP for Asante-Akim North Constituency indicated.
