PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO FILE NOMINATIONS FORMS TODAY

By:brightwebtv.com nana Asare barimah

All presidential, parliamentary and independent candidates are to file their nominations forms from Today, October 5, 2020 ahead of the 2020 elections.

The EC set five days for filing of nominations forms, beginning from today, Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9, 2020.

The Presidential candidates are expected to file the norms together with their filing fee of GH¢100,000 in a bankers draft.

For parliamentary candidates, they will also submit theirs with an amount of GH¢10,000 also in a bankers draft as filing fee.

Earlier, the EC stated that due to the covid-19 protocols the forms can be submitted by the candidates or their secretary, adding that not more than five persons would be allowed at the office to submit the forms on behalf of the parties respectively.

Unlike before where supporters escorted their candidates to file their forms in a more lively and massive grand style, in order to stop the spread of covid-19, the EC has placed a ban on the outrageous number of persons who go to their office to file nomination forms.

The EC also stated that all political parties will submit their forms based on appointments to prevent the situation of overcrowding at its office.

Meanwhile, the minority has raised concerns on the filing of forms at a time the voters’ register is still provisional and not yet valid.

According to the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, a presidential or parliamentary candidate should be an eligible voter before he or she can submit a form, as well as those who endorse the forms should also be eligible voters before they can endorse the forms.

However, he raised issues that the new voters’ register is still provisional and therefore needs to be valid before it can be used to endorse anyone.

He explained that if someone submits their forms and after submitting it their name is not found in the register, then they do not qualify to be part of the race come December 7.

The EC is yet to speak on the concerns raised by the minority.
