Horace Ekow Ewusi (In White), Suspended Central Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP

Suspended Central Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Horace Ekow Ewusi who was supposedly arrested by the police over 500 missing excavators used for illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ has been spotted in a popular pub in Accra celebrating his ‘release’ from CID.

Ekow Ewusi became a subject of interest after some 500 excavators got missing from the depots. He was subsequently arrested Rambo-style but was released few hours later, MyNewsGh.com has learnt.

Following his release, Ekow Ewusi has been greeted with a drink-up by his family and close friends where he assured them he is “solid”.

A source told MyNewsGh.com Ekow Ewusi can bring the entire NPP system down if he feels threatened because “he knows a lot about what the big men are doing… They have been calling and texting him since news of the arrest. They know it”.

Ekow Ewusi alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) agreed to operate ‘galamsey’ to finance the party.

The Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng issued a letter directing the Criminal Investigation Department to arrest and interrogate him after learning that former Vice Chairman of the NPP in the C/R, Horace Ekow Ewusi had sold some of the confiscated equipment from illegal miners.

The other five arrested were Frederick Ewusi, Joel Asamoah, Adam Haruna, Frank Gyan, and John Arhin who have all been released.

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng has disclosed how embattled Central Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Horace Ekow Ewusi came into the picture for the fight against illegal mining popularly referred to as ‘galamsey’.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng said, the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Illegal Mining, the then secretary, Charles Bissue now suspended, introduced Mr. Ewusi as a party person who could help them resolve the issue of storage of seized excavators.

He explained that impounded excavators from ‘galamsey’ operators was a major issue since they did not have a central area to keep them.

He noted that Charles Bissue averred that Mr. Ewusi was an auctioneer who had depots scattered in three separate areas namely; Industrial Area, Abelemkpe and Oyarifa.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng further intimated that there was the need to keep the impounded machines at a centralized location in Accra hence the resolve of the Secretariat to employ the services of the NPP Deputy Chairman of the Central region.

He, however, clarified that Mr. Ewusi was not working in any capacity with Operation Vanguard as was being speculated.
