Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that deadly the COVID-19 pandemic has helped to accelerate the country march towards Ghana Beyond Aid.

According to him, Ghana had plans of ensuring that the country depends on locally produced goods however, the emergence of COVID-19 has been an instrument towards achieving such a goal.

He noted that hitherto this period, the country never produced Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) but with the emergence of COVID-19, the country started to produce PPEs; noting that this is a practical implementation of Ghana Beyond Aid.

The Vice President who was speaking on Accra-based Peace FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com indicated that apart from PPEs, Ghana is beginning to build an automotive industry where automobiles will be built and assembled locally so that Ghanaians will not have to import cars.

He indicated that government has plans to choose a partner to help develop the country’s Bauxite in order to help develop the local economy.

“COVID-19 has helped accelerate our march towards Ghana Beyond Aid. With the coming of COVID-19 helped us to practically implement the Ghana Beyond AID. The government is looking at encouraging domestic production and that could be seen in the production of the PPEs for the fight against COVID-19,” he said in an interview with Accra-based Peace FM.
