Two weeks old baby abandoned along Winneba-Agona Swedru road

A two-week-old baby was on Tuesday afternoon found dumped in a bush by an unknown person, along the Winneba-Agona Swedru Highway.

The baby boy was rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital for immediate medical attention by Mr Kwame Turkson, Chairman of the Central Regional Association of Private Security Organization, and Mr Kobina Tawiah who found the baby.

Madam Naomi Kudjoe, the Senior Nursing Officer of Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, told the media that the two-week baby is healthy, but he has been placed under intensive medical care for fear of infection as a result of the place he was found.

She said the hospital would take good care of the baby until Social Welfare and the Police complete their findings on how the baby got in the bunker.

Madam Kudjoe said when the baby’s health is restored the hospital would contact Department of Social Welfare and Police for the collection of the child.

Mr Turkson, who took to the baby to the hospital, told reporters that he was on his way to Accra for a medical check-up but on reaching new Winneba Signboard area saw plenty vehicles packed with people attempting to have a look at the abandoned baby.

He said he also parked and rushed to the scene and saw the baby on the chest of Mr Kobina Tawiah and two other young boys standing by him and asked about the situation and was accordingly briefed.

Mr Turkson said Mr Tawiah and other boys came from New Winneba Sign Board community and when they heard the crying of the baby in the bush when they sought to collect gravels from the roadside to fill potholes on the road – their usual activity.

He said the case was reported to Winneba Police and Department of Social Welfare.

Mr Turkson appealed for assistance in catering for the baby since he could not do it alone.
