Acting IGP, James Oppong Boanuh

President Akufo-Addo has submitted the name of acting Inspector General of Police James Oppong-Boanuh to the Council of State for consideration as substantive for the top police job, Starrfm.com.gh has learnt.

The Council of State is likely to meet tomorrow Friday October 4 over the President’s nomination.

If confirmed, Mr. Oppong-Boanuh will have to be given a contract extension by the President as he turns 61 on October 8 and therefore due for retirement.

Starr News sources also say there are considerations to elevate Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno to the position of deputy IGP.

Mr. Oppong-Boanuh has chalked some successes since taking up the acting IGP position appearing to have brought the matter concerning the missing Takoradi girls to a close.

He is also deemed a disciplinarian by a section of Ghanaians with his quick reaction to incidents regarding police misconduct.

Until his appointment, Mr Oppong-Buanuh was the Director-General of Administration at the Police headquarters.
