Group Chief Executive Officer of Hollard Ghana Holdings Limited has said submission in marriage “does not come to most of us naturally.”

According to Patience Akyianu “You have to consciously decide to be submissive. The word [submission] brings to mind subservience.”
“It almost feels degrading. You have to go out of your way to be humble,” she said on Joy FM’s Home Affairs Saturday on the back of International Women’s Day marked March 8.

She told Edem Knight-Tay, show host “many of us are not wired to submit. It is a human thing rather than an executive not being able to submit.”
Akyianu who was speaking on the topic: “the Executive Woman and Submission” however conceded that submission is part of God’s blueprint for marriages to be successful.
“Submission is a “Biblical concept especially in marriage” adding that “Marriage is God’s idea, not man’s.”

Sharing panel with Akyianu was Abena Kessewaa Brown, Principal of the National Banking College.  On her part, she said love conquers all things.
While she concedes that submission is a difficult heddle to surmount, she said with love and respect it can be done.

“If you love somebody and you respect them, we are hoping that love will surpass all. Love will surpass the difficulty that comes with submission,” she said.
