Snakes take over abandoned ICT Centre as Kwadaso assembly operates under a tree

Snakes, frogs and other reptiles have taken over the abandoned Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre at Kwadaso in the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly of the Ashanti Region while some decentralized departments operate from under trees.

 


The ICT Centre MyNewsGh.com gathered, was built by the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso constituency who is now Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto in 2012 to serve as Information centre for students and residents of Kwadaso Municipality.
It was reported that the main gate of the project had been locked while the place is weedy with some commercial drivers turning the  frontage  of the facility into a parking space while others dumped garbage near it.
Presiding Member (PM) for Kwadaso Municipal Assembly Kwame Kwakye who spoke to MyNewsGh.com, expressed worry over the development when reached for his comments about the incident.
According to him, the project has the potential of helping majority of residents including students in the Municipality as far as the learning ICT is concerned, revealing that the project was closed down by the Minister of Communication, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful over unexplained reasons.

Kwame Kwakye appealed to the Minister  to hand over the project to the assembly to temporarily use a some offices for Kwadaso Municipal Assembly since it currently  from  operates under tree due to inadequate of office space, adding that about 12 department operate in a single room making the work of the assembly difficult.

“All the revenue that the Assembly is generating is used to rent a place. It is so pathetic that 12 departments are in the same room doing their work. Some workers have to sit under tree to work. The situation making our work difficult. Even me as the presiding member, my office is under the tree. We are calling on Minister of Communication to allow us to go to the abandoned completed ICT centre”. He said.
