The Upper East Region has recorded one death and four (4) additional cases of the Coronavirus(COVID-19) bringing the total number of cases to eight (8) as of April 16, 2020, MyNewsGh.com reports.

According to the Regional Health Directorate, three of the additional cases were contacts of the first case the region recorded.

A statement signed by the Regional Health Director of Health Services Dr. Winfred Ofosu said one of the cases was detected through routine surveillance in the Bawku Municipality.

“Unfortunately, the case in Bawku passed on before the laboratory results were received from KCCR, however, being a suspected case burial was appropriately supervised,” the statement said.

Contact tracing is set to begin for persons who have come into contact with the newly confirmed cases while steps are also taken to communicate to the infected persons of their status.

It has emerged that the deceased COVID-19 patient in the Bawku Municipality, is a 52 year old woman from Mazema, a Community in the Bawku Municipality.

She visited the Presbyterian Hospital in Bawku on the 7th April with fever, difficulty in breathing, coughing, running nose, diarrhea and muscular joint pains.

Samples were taken for test upon the suspicion of COVID-19, unfortunately the patient died before the release of her test results.

She had no travel history.
