UEW Rumpus: Gunshots at North Campus as students run for cover

There was pandemonium on Thursday morning at the North Campus of the University of Education Winneba (UEW) when fully armed policemen numbering 20 stormed the school and started firing warning shots to disperse agitated students.

MyNewsGh. com gathered that one person has been injured while fear-stricken students have resolve to continue with the boycott of lectures to demand the reinstatement of dismissed lecturers of the institution under the watch of the current Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni.
One of the students who spoke to MyNewsGh.com disclosed that they were at the faculty of educational studies block when the heavily armed police stormed the area and started firing to scare the students who had converged to continue the second day of their protests.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself the concerned students of the of attempts by the Vice-Chancellor in collusion with some appointed Student Representative Council Executives to undermine the ongoing demonstrations.
In a statement issued and signed on Thursday, they said “The Office of Concern Students Association (CSA) UEW-Main extends it warm greetings to the cherished Students of Uew.
It has come to our notice that the current so called SRC executives who were supposed to be voted for last  year but were appointed by the office of the Vice Chancellor  has issued a communique threatening students not to embark on a peaceful demonstration.
We the concern students after our checks and from a reliable source within the SRC since Monday have found the following;

1. The office of the vice- chancellor had a meeting with the appointed SRC on Monday and threatened them to do use every means possible to stop the demonstration else they will be fired.

2.There have been financial malfeasance with the printing of Lactose for the level 100 which the VC has promised to cover them up should they achieve the stated objective.

3.The appointments of these SRC Executives was not based on competence but students who vowed to kotow and support the agenda of the VC.
4.That any actions from students which is not in line with the VC,s agenda must be put to trash by the appointed SRC.
Therefore, we the concern students after resolutions from UTAG in a meeting held in Legon yesterday giving us full support to go ahead with our demonstration are calling on students to get prepared for Gargantuan and peaceful demonstration in collaboration with the Alumina of UEW on monday 18/03/2019.
Again,we want to thank the good people of UEW for the support and corporations given so far. We need all of you to fully support the fight and save our school from a looming Dictator.

However, we want to use this communique to warn the incompetent appointed SRC executives never to interfere nor step feet at the ground on the said date in their own interest
