Quizmistress Dr Elsie Effah Kaufmann has disclosed that she will be terrible at quizzes were she a competitor.

According to the National Science and Maths quizmistress who has hosted the programme for 13 years, although she is capable of answering all the quiz questions, she is known more for accuracy than speed, therefore, she is not cut out to be a good contestant.

“I’ll be terrible at quizzes because I’m known more for accuracy than for speed. If they have to solve maths problems in 30 seconds, they [contestants] do very well, honestly, they do well. If you give me plenty of time, I can solve all those questions but not in 30 seconds,” Dr Kaufmann told Prince Benjamin on the Class Drive on Class91.3FM on Thursday, 12 September 2019.

Asked whether or not the ability to solve difficult problems at a fast pace was a gift bestowed on some people, Dr Kaufmann noted that it is more of practicing to become perfect at it.

She said: “It is not a gift but I think it’s mainly practise. There are some people who start out already a little faster but when they practise, they get much better.”

The quizmistress also disclosed that there have been a few times that quiz questions have been wrong.
Recalling one such incident two years ago, Dr Kaufmann said there was an error with the Problem Of The Day and it took some of the contestants to point it out.

“When it happened, it’s a human thing, the consultants are human and I’m human, so, we correct it because we cannot be unfair to contestants or most importantly, we cannot miseducate the public,” she stated.
