A woman is in the police grips after she allegedly run over the foot of a police inspector Friday morning.

The incident happened at the East Legon Under Bridge in Accra — while the officer was performing his lawful duty.

Police identified the suspect as Trudy Boatemaa Darko and was onboard a Hyundai Santafe with registration number GE 2309-18.

She was signaled to stop on reaching a Covid-19 check point at the said location, but failed to stop.

Amidst the use of provocative words, she rather run over the foot of one of the officers and threatened to deal with another officer who had approached her during the chaotic scene.

The injured Chief Inspector, who was unable to walk, was later rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect, according to the police has been charged under the road traffic laws and would be arraigned before court on Monday.

Ghana announced a partial lockdown in two of its major cities, as the West African nation intensifies fight against Covid-19.

Security personnel have since been deployed to these enclaves to enforce the directive as the country’s case count stands at 641.

But it appears civilians living in these cities disobey the order and also subject the police into verbal and physical assaults.

A man was remanded into police custody for allegedly spraying a substance into the eyes of a policewoman in Accra.

The 22-year-old scrap dealer is facing charges of assault and flouting an executive order.
