The Western Regional Police Command with support from other security agencies on Thursday, September 12, 2019, arrested 217 suspected criminals within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The suspects are reportedly behind criminal activities within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Briefing the media after the operation, Deputy Western Regional police Commander ACP Edmund Ohene Bosompem said a total of 400 security personnel were used in the operation at Sekondi European town and at Albert Bosomtwe Sam fishing harbour.

He stated that the operation started around 4:00 am on Thursday. He revealed that the operation was supported by an air force helicopter, a naval ship, two naval boats and one marine police boat.

ACP Bosompem added that the various reports of kidnapping, robberies, murder and drug related offences led to the operation.

The suspects are made up of 194 males and 19 females. Several wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indiam hemp, toffees laced with drugs and Tramadol were retrieved from the suspects.

Also an amount of Ghc23, 997.05 were found on the suspects. ACP Bosompem added that the suspects will be screened and the those found guilty will be prosecuted.
