VIDEO: How stolen police rifles by Western Togoland rebels were retrieved

A combined team of armed Police and Militarypersonnel deployed to parts of the Volta Region of Ghana to help arrest the secessionists’ attacks in the region has retrieved rifles the group stole from Police stations and police posts they attacked.

The Volta separatist group known as Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) has over the years been advocating for independence from Ghana. Several members of this group have been arrested after they were alleged to have engaged in activities to champion the cause of the group. These people have later been released after the state did not pursue the issue.

About a fortnight ago, members of the group expressed their agitations for independence by blocking some roads in the Volta Region and attacking some state institutions including  Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

Several weapons were stolen after which Chief Superintendent, Dennis Fiakpui, the Sogakope Divisional Commander was attacked and suffered multiple cutlass and gunshot wounds in the hands of rebels of the separatists,

In a video in possession of MyNewsGh.com, one of the arrested secessionists is seen assisting the Police and Soldiers to retrieve the rifles which were buried in the middle of the bush after being wrapped with a black polyethylene bag

Meanwhile, sixty members of the group have been arrested and have been arraigned before the lawcourt as government insists they are criminals and will be dealt with as such and will never open for negotiations.
