Population Census: GES Absenteeism Rules To Be Strictly Applied

GES absenteeism rules to be strictly applied as Ghana gets ready to deploy field officers for the 2021 population census.

The Ghana Education Service intends to tighten its supervision roles to ensure teacher absenteeism is curtailed during the period of the census.

GES to Apply Absenteeism Rules Strictly

The Ghana Education Service led by Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah has issued directives to Directors of Education to ensure that they apply absenteeism rules strictly.

The call comes as there are fears some teachers may work as enumerators for the Ghana Census Program.

The directive was issued after the release of the list of enumerators by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The Director-General explained that contact hours are channeled into working for the Ghana Statistical Service by teachers who carry out the duties as enumerators to the disadvantage of their learners.

To further ensure absenteeism is prevented, and those found guilty sanctioned, the Director has indicated that any teacher who absents himself for 10 working days is deemed to have vacated his or her post.

Teachers will be in school due to the change in the academic calendar. He called for the monitoring of attendance books along with teaching hours to ensure the education service is purged of any form of absenteeism.

The Ghana Statistical Service undertakes the country’s population census every 10 years. The 2020 population censure that was postponed is scheduled to start on 27th June 2021, which happens to be Ghana’s Census Night.
