Kumasi: Locals rush to siphon fuel from overturned tanker (Video)

Locals rushed to the single-vehicle collision scene with their receptacles to fetch the over 50,000 litres of diesel from the tanker, officials confirmed

There was mad rush to siphon fuel from an overturned tanker on Sunday (1 May) in Kaase-Ahodwo near the Asokwa Industrial Area in Kumasi.

Locals rushed to the single-vehicle collision scene with their receptacles to fetch the over 50,000 litres of diesel from the tanker, officials confirmed.

Eyewitnesses told Asaase News that the police and firefighters had a tough time controlling the residents as they ignored warnings to stay away from the accident spot.

The accident caused a gridlock on that stretch as the emergency team tried to avert a possible disaster.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service managed to put the situation under control after calling for police enforcement before offloading the fuel into another tanker.

Reports say the fuel tanker was heading towards the BOST depot at Kaase when the incident occurred.

“Normally when there is an incident of this nature we always tell people to run away from the scene. But they rather came looking for something. What happened was that the tanker was initiating a curve and it didn’t get it right and fell,” Ebenezer Graham of the Asokwa fire sub-station told the media.
