The Asokwa District Court has charged Edward Awuku, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) driver who shot and killed his girlfriend at a hotel in Kumasi and his wife, Belinda Awuku with murder.

Police Prosecutor, Chief Superintendent, Odame Ameyaw Nyamekye presenting the facts in court stated the deceased, Comfort Owusu is a girlfriend of the suspect and travelled with him in a Honda Accord vehicle on the day of murder.

Reporting the turnout of event in court on Friday on Joy News Pulse, Luv FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah stated, the police also requested for a warrant to re-arrest Belinda Awuku who was earlier granted bail with two sureties but refused to show up in court with the excuse that she was out of Kumasi.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to January 24, 2019 with the suspect, Edward Awuku remanded into police custody to give police more time to investigate the issue and also await advice from the Attorney General.

The deceased, Comfort Owusu Afriyie, 46, and a restaurant operator was shot dead in the chest on New Year’s Day at Cedar Crescent Hotel at Danyame by Edwin Awuku, 42.

The two had checked into the facility hours before the fatal gunshot was fired, which the suspect, Mr Awuku had attempted to cover up.

After the incident, he told hotel management and his wife proceeded to the police to lodge a complaint that her husband and Mrs Owusu Afriyie were attacked by armed robbers.
