COVID-19: Pastor of Open Arms Ministry to be arraigned today for holding church service

Head Pastor of the Open Arms Ministries, Apostle Kofi Nkansah Sarkodie who was arrested for breaking the government’s ban on all social gatherings in the country following the outbreak of COVID-19 will be arraigned today.

The Pastor was arrested on Sunday, 22 March 2020 for holding church service for the second time despite the ban.

Ghana has so far recorded 24 cases and 1 death forcing government to place a ban on public gatherings to prevent further spread of the virus.

President Nana Akufo-Addo placed a ban on all social gatherings including church and mosque services, funerals, festivals, conferences and others to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Many churches issued statements to confirm their adherence to the directive.

The pastor was first arrested on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 by the Ashanti regional police command for organising church service but was granted bail.

He was arrested again on Sunday, 22 March 2020 during service when most pastors had resorted to online service for their congregants.
