The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Gomoa East Municipality, Solomon Quarm is of the view that the fast growing nature of the Gomoa East Assembly and the Kasoa Township in the Central region has contributed to crime rate in the area.

“Kasoa’s proximity to Accra has attracted a lot of people to settle causing a rapid growth in the population. This has also increased crime rate in the area,” he said.

The comment by Mr Quarm follows the murder of two policemen and a sub-chief in the area on Monday by unidentified assailants.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News, Mr Quarm said the densely populated nature of the district has also burdened the police in the district.

“I have petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Interior Minister to create another District police command in the area because as it stands now, the Kasoa District Police serves four divisional commands; Dominase, Nyarnyarno, Ojobi and the Pentecost divisional commands which is a lot of work because Budumburam alone contributes about 90% to the crime rate in the area,” he said.

Mr Quarm, however, assured that calm had been restored to Akraman with residents going about their duties after the murder of the Gyaasehene of the area.
