Accra: Policeman gunned down by 21-year-old sister

A constable with the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Ghana Police Service has been shot dead by his sister at Chantan, a suburb of Accra, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

Shakirah Nasir aged 21 years who lives in a family house with the deceased  Chantan near Abeka Lapaz is alleged to have on Sunday at about 12.40 pm visited the deceased while he was readying himself for work.

She is said to have picked the deceased sidearm from the table and in the process of handing over the same to him, it went off accidentally and hit the back of the deceased leading to his untimely death.

Elder sister of the deceased one Abubakar Habibatu who heard sound of the gunshot, from her brother’s room and saw him lying on the floor unconscious.

She later rushed him to Lapas Community Hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police immediately proceeded to the said facility and met the Constable in Police uniform dead with a wound at back suspected to be gunshot wound.

A Pistol and two empty pistol ammunition shells have been  retrieved from the crime scene according to Inspector Christopher Annor who is leading investigations

Body was removed and deposited at police Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy. The Tesano Police commander and his crime officer together with a team of investigators later visited the crime scene.

Currently, the younger sister of the deceased is with the Police assisting in investigation.

Meanwhile, The Counter Terrorism Headquarters Accra unit commander was accordingly informed and he confirmed that the deceased was his staff.
