A/Region: Police arrests two for kidnapping, rescues 14-year-old victim

Police in the Ashanti Region have rescued a 14-year old boy who was allegedly kidnapped.
The victim, whose name has been withheld was reported missing at Kwamo near Ejisu on 24th March, 2019.

The suspects; 38-year old Charles Appiah and 29-year old Manasseh Fumey live in the same vicinity.
According to police, the suspects conferred with their accomplice who has been identified as Felix to kidnap the victim and take a ransom from his grandmother who they perceived to be rich.
The suspects made friends and exchanged contact with the victim after promising to buy him a smartphone and a laptop.
One of the suspects, Felix invited the victim to take the smartphone and laptop he was promised, after he got to Tech junction to meet the suspect, he made unconscious after chloroform was used on him and put into a waiting Toyota car and was taken away.
The victim was sent to Apatrapa, a suburb of the Kumasi metropolis and kept into a secluded area in an uncompleted two-storey building.
The suspect later called the victim’s grandmother to demand a sum of $3000.00 to facilitate the release of her grandson.
Briefing journalists in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the victim who was tied up and abandoned in the building managed to cut the rope and drew the attention of a passer-by for help.
He said pthe asser-by informed police at the Tanoso Police station who responded swiftly and rescued the victim.
ASP Ahianyo added that suspect Manasseh Fumey later informed police at Ejisu about the planned kidnap and led police to arrest his accomplice Charles Appiah.
Police has mounted a search for Felix who they say took advantage of his not being familiar with the victim to execute the kidnap.
Police have also invited a caretaker of the storey building for further questioning.
The victim was sent to the hospital for medical check up and has since been handed over to his parents.
