Argentine football manager, Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new head coach for Chelsea’s men team.

The 51-year-old’s contract will be valid for two years beginning from the 2023/2024 season in July.

“Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm Mauricio Pochettino will become head coach of the men’s team from the beginning of the 2023/24 season,” the Club said in a statement on Monday.

He will have the option of extending his contract a year further after the two years contract expires.

Pochettino replaces caretaker coach Frank Lampard.

He once coached Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint Germain.

It is hoped that he will be able to revive Chelsea which had a “miserable” season and has gained a “toothless” tag.

The Club finished the season 12th in the League with 44 points. Out of 38 games played, Chelsea recorded 11 wins, 11 draws and 16 losses. They scored 38 goals throughout the campaign and conceded 47.

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, believe Pochettino’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Club well.

“He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate,” they hold.

Meanwhile, owners of the club, Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, José E. Feliciano, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss added, “The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”
